How to Format Drivers/Partions in Windows 10 Without a Third-Party Tool

In this article, we lay out two simple ways to format a drive/partition without a third-party tool. Formatting is an operation that erases all data on a drive/partition. Method 1: Format a Drive Within File Explorer.

Step 1: Press Win + E to open File Explorer and navigate to This PC.

Step 2: Right-click on a drive to bring up the drop-down menu of it, and then click on Format.

Step 3: Under the File System, Select a system for the drive, And make sure that the Quick Format box is checked off. And then click on Start.

Method 2: Format a Drive via Disk Management

Step 1: Press Win + Q, type in Disk Management, and open it.

Step 2: In the Disk Management window, right-click on a drive/partition you want to format and select Format.

Step 3: Type in a name, select a file system for the drive/partition, check off the Perform a quick format box and click OK to start.
